TEACHING TERMS & CONDITIONS
Things You Need to Know
Helen Domleo: Tuition Terms and Conditions
The following terms and conditions apply when you book and attend a class or workshop with me. By making a booking or attending a class/workshop you are agreeing to these terms and conditions so please read them carefully. If you are buying an item of jewellery from my website or ordering a commission, please read my Store Policies instead.
It is probably obvious, but in this document and on this website ‘I’, ‘me’ or ‘my’ mean Helen Domleo of 119 Brookhill Street, Stapleford NG9 7GJ, while ‘you’, ‘your’, ‘student’ or ‘participant’ mean you, the person enrolling for and/or attending the class or workshop, and ‘we’ or ‘us’ refers to both you and me. ‘Classes’ are regular weekly lessons with me, a ‘workshop’ is a one-off class or series of classes on a particular subject that is open to general bookings, and a ‘group workshop’ is a one-off class arranged for a specific group of people at your request.
These terms and conditions were written in November 2020. I will review them periodically to keep them up to date and to reflect changes in my business or the law. If you are a regular attendee at classes and I make changes that significantly affect you I will let you know, otherwise the terms and conditions shown on this website when you make your booking, sign up for classes or pay any deposit will continue to apply.
Please read my Privacy Policy which explains how I use your personal information and comply with data protection law.
Any agreement between us is governed by English law.
About my Website
Using this website should be straightforward, but if you have any problems or queries, please contact hdomleo@yahoo.com and I will be happy to help.
All images and content on this website, my social media feeds and any printed literature, are my intellectual property and must not be used in any form or medium without my permission and without being attributed to me. I reserve the right to take appropriate action in the event of any misuse of my intellectual property. For publicity purposes I may use photos of the work you create in your class or workshop and I will always ask your permission first.
Suitability and Accessibility
Please note that my classes and workshops are not suitable for under-18s.
This website will normally state the skill level of a workshop. If you are unsure about its suitability, please e-mail hdomleo@yahoo.com before booking.
Classes in my studio are held on the ground floor with one step up into the building, but the accessibility of external venues will differ. If you have any difficulties with mobility, or other support needs, please contact hdomleo@yahoo.com before booking to ensure that the class/workshop and venue are suitable for you.
Booking and cancellation
This section applies to workshops and classes booked directly with me or through my website. If you book through and pay a third-party venue, that third party’s terms and conditions will apply in respect of booking, payment and cancellation terms in so far as they differ from those set out here.
Workshops: These have a fixed date and venue and must be paid for in full in advance. Your place on a workshop is not secured until I have received full, cleared payment. If you book on this website, by law you have 14 days to amend your booking or to cancel it and receive a full refund. If you cancel after this time and up to 28 days before the workshop, I will provide a 50% refund or offer the option to switch to another workshop, where available. No refunds will be provided in the event of cancellations less than 28 days before the workshop.
If I cancel the workshop, I will offer you the choice of a full refund or a transfer to an alternative workshop, where available.
If I need to change the date or venue of the workshop after you have booked, I will let you know as soon as possible. If this change means you are unable to attend, I will offer a full refund or, where available, the option of attending an alternative workshop. If you opt for an alternative workshop, the cost may differ. If it is higher than that of the original, you will be required to pay the difference. If it is lower, I will refund the difference. If you prefer, you may transfer your booking to another person, in which case please let me know their name and contact details before the workshop.
If you are unable to attend the workshop at the last minute due to illness or other circumstances outside your control, please contact me as soon as possible and I may, at my discretion, offer a partial refund in the form of a gift voucher to be used at a future workshop. If you miss the workshop without first contacting me, you will forfeit the full workshop fee.
Classes: Classes take place on the same day each week and must be paid before the start of each month or block of classes, depending on the venue and class. I will tell you how many classes are in the next block. The number may vary, but you must pay for the entire block or month in order to secure your place in the class. If you miss a block or month your place may be given to someone else which, as class numbers are limited, may mean that you cannot re-join the same class and will need to be placed on a waiting list.
If I need to cancel a class, I will give as much notice as possible and deduct the cost of that class from your next monthly or block/term payment.
If you need to miss a class due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances, please let me know as soon as possible. With reasonable notice, the missed class may be made up in another class as and when there is a space, by our mutual agreement. If you miss a class without giving me reasonable warning you will not be permitted to make the class up at a later date.
Class bookings are transferrable to another person. Please let me know their name and contact details before the class. You should ensure they are of a similar level of ability to you.
If you miss more than 3 classes in a row without contacting me, I will assume that you no longer wish to attend. You will not be entitled to a refund of any fees already paid for that month or block and I may offer your place to someone else.
Group Workshops: group bookings require a 50% deposit at the time of booking. This is not refundable, and the workshop booking is not secured until I have received your cleared deposit. The remainder must be paid 28 days before the date of the workshop. If the booking is made less than 28 days before the date of the workshop, I will require full payment at the time of booking.
Group bookings are subject to a minimum number of participants and individual cancellations are not permitted, although individual places may be transferred to another person. At my discretion I may allow you to add additional participants to your group after booking, at an additional cost.
If I cancel the workshop or need to change its date or location, I will offer you a full refund or the opportunity to rearrange the workshop on the original terms agreed.
If you cancel a booking more than 28 days before the workshop, you will forfeit your deposit. If you have already paid in full, I will refund 50% of the amount paid. After this time, you will not be entitled to a refund.
Payment
This section applies to workshops and classes booked directly with me or through my website. If you book through and pay a third-party venue, that third party’s terms and conditions will apply in respect of booking, payment and cancellation terms in so far as they differ from those set out in this section. The venue should make you aware of its terms and conditions when you book.
Workshops and Group Workshops: Payment for workshops booked online may be made by credit or debit card. If you prefer not to use online payment methods, I accept payment by cheque drawn on a UK bank only. If you wish to pay by cheque, please e-mail hdomleo@yahoo.com to make your booking and wait for confirmation, before posting your cheque to the address provided. I will hold your place or in the case of a group workshop, I will hold the date, for 7 calendar days pending receipt of your cheque. I will notify you when I receive your cheque and if I do not receive it within 7 calendar days, I will release your place or date and it may be taken by another person or group.
If you pay by cheque, the cheque must clear before the date of the workshop. In the case of last-minute bookings where there is no clearance time, I reserve the right to ask you to use an alternative method of payment such as card or bank transfer.
Classes: Payment for classes is taken before the start of each block of classes or month as applicable, and may be made by cash, cheque or bank transfer. Payments taken on this website may be made by debit card or credit card, once this facility becomes available. If your cheque is returned, I reserve the right to refuse you admission to classes until the outstanding amount is paid.
What’s included?
Payment for classes includes tuition and use of tools (although you are welcome to bring your own tools if you have them). As well as tools, I provide flux and polishes. Materials such as silver and copper are charged extra and must be paid for in the class in cash, by cheque or by bank transfer using your mobile banking service.
All the silver we use in class is 100% recycled sterling silver, which I buy only from reputable precious metal suppliers, principally Cookson’s Gold and Bellore Rashbel. The price of precious metals fluctuates regularly and often significantly, and I will charge you the applicable price on the day you buy it from me or the day I bought it from the supplier if that is higher. The price will include a mark-up to cover my expenses. If you wish, you are welcome to buy and bring your own silver or copper and I can provide details of suppliers. Other consumables such as saw blades, drill bits, polishing and sanding bits, solder and enamels are also charged extra and must be paid for in the class as above. Not all of these items are routinely kept in stock.
Payment for workshops includes tuition and use of tools, flux and polishes. Other items may be included or charged at extra cost, and these will be stated clearly in the workshop description and/or confirmed at the time of booking.
If you book a workshop using a gift voucher, any ‘change’ from the voucher will be provided in the form of another gift voucher, not in cash. Gift vouchers are valid only for workshops held at my studio, and not at those arranged by third parties or held at third party venues. They can also be used to purchase jewellery from my website.
Making the Most of your Classes or Workshop
Before your first class or your workshop, I will provide you with an information sheet. I want you to enjoy yourself and I aim to encourage you to explore your creativity while guiding you so your pieces will be a success. To maximise the benefit of classes, particularly if they are held at a third-party venue, I would ask that you discuss your ideas with me in advance so that I can bring in any extra equipment that might be needed for your project to go well.
Safety and Conduct
I provide a safe and well-equipped environment for my classes and workshops. I will give you safety information at the start of your workshop or first class, and will advise and guide you throughout on how to work safely. You will be using sharp tools, butane gas and chemicals. You are responsible for your own safety while in the class or workshop, and for following the guidance and advice I give you. To the extent that the law permits, I accept no liability for any injury or damage that occurs, and I reserve the right to ask you to leave or discontinue classes or a workshop if I believe you are a danger to yourself or to others, or if you persistently fail to observe my safety guidance. In such a situation, you will not be entitled to a refund of the class or workshop fee.
I hold full, current, public and professional liability insurance.
It is a good idea to bring along a butcher’s apron to protect your clothes, and to tie your hair back if you have long hair. If the class is going to be casting or enamelling, you must wear closed-toe shoes.
Liability, Rights and Responsibilities
Once I have accepted your booking and received your full, cleared payment (or cleared deposit, where applicable) I will provide the agreed classes or workshop, subject to my cancellation and refund policy as set out in 3.0 above. I am not liable under any circumstances for additional costs, consequential loss, damages or expenses however caused.

I reserve the right to refuse to accept any booking.
Although I hope it is never necessary, I reserve the right to ask any student to leave or discontinue a workshop or classes if they behave in a way that I deem to be disruptive or disrespectful.
I may change my class and workshop pricing at any time or offer occasional promotions or discounts. For classes, I will usually notify students in advance of any price increase. For workshops, the price agreed at the time of booking and payment (or payment of deposit) will remain in force for that workshop.
Intellectual Property
All my jewellery designs are my intellectual property and while I am normally very happy for my students to copy them or to make items that are very similar, you must not pass them off for commercial purposes as being your own design. I reserve the right to take appropriate action if my intellectual property rights are infringed.
